Like every parent during the pandemic, we found ourselves at home needing to provide an education for our children, so Liz decided she would teach our daughter Spanish.

But how? Language is all about communication, with speaking and listening at its heart, yet the apps dominating the market were often little more than gamified textbooks.

Omniloquent grew out of our need for an effective platform for learning how to communicate in other languages.

By combining Liz’s academic expertise with Edward’s technical prowess, and built from the ground up to fully exploit the amazing advances in Generative AI and Speech Recognition,
Omniloquent aims to be a complete, integrated system for effective language learning - giving everyone the opportunity to experience the world with new ears.

We started Omniloquent precisely because effective and efficient technology-supported language learning has not been solved, despite over 120 years* of innovation.

Learning language is difficult for many reasons:

Inherent complexity – there is so much to learn!
Motivation and Dedication – you need to put in the hours!
Embarrassment – you must develop enough confidence to have a go!
Lack of opportunity – to actually use the language productively

Existing apps try and address this by using simplistic "achievable" tasks and gamification - but this doesn't result in meaningful progress and ultimately students give up.

We believe that sustained motivation comes from real learning progress - and this requires lots of practice with scaffolded support, grounded in established pedagogical principles
